Deivi García, a former top pitching prospect with the Yankees, is headed to the National League for the first time.
The right-hander signed a minor-league deal with the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.
García is coming off another disappointing season, his first full year outside of the Yankees organization. He posted a 7.07 ERA across 14 innings with the White Sox in 2024. Over 40 games at the Triple-A level with Chicago, García’s numbers weren’t too much better. He had a 6.18 ERA in 40 appearances.
The Yankees moved on from García last summer, designating him for assignment in August of 2023.

RESTORING THE GLORY
Not too long ago, García and Clarke Schmidt were both viewed as the top two pitching prospects in the Yankees’ system. Both made their MLB debuts during the shortened season in 2020, flashing some of their potential. While Schmidt has since carved out a role for himself in pinstripes, continuing to develop into an effective big-league starter, García quickly dropped down on the depth chart of prospects in the upper levels of the minor-league system.
All told, García made only 10 appearances with the Yankees in the big leagues from 2020 through this past season, pitching to a 4.84 ERA. In his career, the right-hander has a ghastly 6.31 ERA over parts of five seasons in Triple-A.
A change of scenery could be what García needs. He’s still only 25 and as much as his career hasn’t gone according to plan thus far, the Brewers will have a chance to bring the best out of him next spring. Milwaukee opens the 2025 season against the Yankees in the Bronx next March.
